Follow the path. The original Barrow Hill is a superbly creepy slice of horror adventuring that is perfect for fans of things like Amnesia. However, this long-awaited sequel doesn't really live up to the standards of its predecessor, making it one that is perhaps best avoided. The game takes place some ten years after the infamous "Barrow Hill" event where several people lost their lives to a terrifying force but you now find yourself returning to the scene of the crime, a Druidic circle which houses many secrets. Joined by your late-night DJ friend, it's up to you to investigate rumors of Devil worshiping and other dark events and find out what's really going on down there in the shadows. What follows is a Myst-style point-and-click adventure which sees you investigating the circle in the hope of uncovering its secrets, and which involves the usual mix of exploration and puzzle-solving. One of the game's key selling points is its non-linearity but unfortunately this is an area where it doesn't deliver what it promises, and in reality it turns out to be a very straightforward affair which proceeds exactly as expected. The game is also much smaller than its predecessor, with less to explore and to interact with, which is another huge disappointment. Further compounding things is the lack of any real atmosphere, something where the first game really scored, and you don't ever really feel that scared or creeped out by anything very much. It's a shame really, as the first game is a cracker but ultimately, this is a Barrow Hill game in name only.
