C.Y.P.H.E.R. Operation US Presidents

Puzzle 1992 Dos Dosbox Tanager Education Adventure style

Edutainment done well, a bit too serious thematically

Even if this is a kids' edutainment game, it doesn't take the path of dumbing things down to the point where it's just fastidious and a bore, nope. You play as an agent of C.Y.P.H.E.R, (hmm, maybe the inspiration came from agents of S.H.I.E.L.D?) and your mission is to decipher coded messages, by assembling them together and then deliver it to the client, presumably the government. Don't worry, the game won't teach your kids that it's alright to open mail, but it's used as a nice premise to put offer you thee minigames, one that is this cryptographic unscrambling of messages I talked about earlier, (a sort of tile based puzzle in reality) and the other are trivia and actual detective work. The detective part is a matching game, quite intricate, but you have all the pieces you need at your disposal so it doesn't get harder than it should. Graphically it's delivered as a combination of static screens onto which you navigate with the mouse, and frankly the combination is not half bad. If you like it you'll also enjoy the Putt Putt series of games, much more cartoonish and silly, if this game's serious premise gives your kids pause!
