Grim and realistic. Tomorrow Comes Today is another modern take on the classic point-and-click adventure genre, as epitomized by Monkey Island, Discworld and Fate of Atlantis. It paints a stark, grim picture of a future world but makes for generally compelling gameplay and which is perfect for when you want something meaty and mature to get into. The complex setting and plot are perhaps the game's most intriguing aspects, displaying a maturity that is welcoming. Players take on the role of a man with no memory and who must discover his past in the wake of a global catastrophe. First, a series of inexplicable natural disasters occurred but worse still, a pandemic broke out which turned people in the 'Dissolved', and with victims ending theirs lives in a gruesome spray of blood. Before their death though, the Dissolved gain special mental powers and the player must figure out what's going on before the moment of 'Dead Synchronicity', when Time itself starts to break apart. This game wears its influences clearly, and stands as an honest tribute to darker adventures like I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream and Sanitarium. This is no bad thing though and this largely lives up to its own high standards. The visuals are lush, in a classic hand-painted 2D style and which are packed with personality and which are very striking. The story is utterly compelling and paints a grimly realistic world that is terrifyingly exciting to explore. Puzzles too are absorbing, although there is bit too much screen scanning, while the actual game is pretty short, lacking in any real challenge. While it last though, this is a cracking adventure.
