Clowns! Clowns! They're evil!. Clowns are terrifying. Let's face, they are one of the most frightening creations on the face of the planet so it was with some trepidation that I approached this game, as the main character is one of these abominations. Once I was able to get over my fear though, I found that this was a strangely charming and enjoyable experience (although it didn't change my opinion of clowns and I still run from them if I ever see one in real life). The game itself is a point-and-click adventure, sort of like Monkey Island or Discworld, and which tells the tale of Dropsy the clown who finds himself spurned by his fellow circus people and who must embark on an epic adventure, dishing out hugs to all who who need them. Of course, there are plenty of puzzles to solve along the way, but these are told non-verbally, making use of visual cues instead of dialogue trees, while the whole thing is told in an open-world fashion, with the player free to choose their route through the story, rather than following it in a linear fashion. Dropsy turns out to be a pretty inventive and enjoyable adventure and is well worth checking out if you're into this genre. The open-endedness is quite refreshing, as is the story, which is very different from the usual narratives seen in this kind of thing. The puzzles to are clever and pretty challenging, so don't go in expecting an easy time. They are mostly fair though and lack the frustration that is sometimes found. The visuals are nice too, with a lovely old-school pixel look, so if you're on the lookout for a new adventure, this might be what you're after. Clowns are still terrifying, though.
