Time to find the Russian danger zone. Not to be confused with the identically named MiG-29 Fulcrum from 1991, this is another fine slice of entry level flight simulator action that is best suited to newcomers to the genre. It's perhaps not as rich and authentic as true hardcore sim lovers would like but if you are just starting to try such things out, this is a fine choice. This one offers an almost dizzying array of features but the main focus is on the many campaigns to try out and which take you on a series of challenging missions from the snow-capped mountains of Europe to the deserts of Africa in such locations as Serbia and the Congo. You're best off starting with the single missions which also include some tutorials so you can get up and running smoothly as although this is fairly accessible stuff, it's a far cry from Afterburner and there are still lots of things to learn. You've also got a nice selection of weapons to kit out your fancy fighter with and you'll need to study them and your mission objectives in order to learn what's best for the job at hand. As far as entry level flight sims go, this is definitely well worth investigating. It's very much action-oriented with some exciting missions that really bring home the thrill of flying at Mach 2.5 while loosing off missiles and machine guns. The visuals remain pretty impressive even today with lots of nice details to look at while you're whizzing around and despite the game's relative complexity, learning the controls isn't as daunting as with other games. All things considered, this is a good bet for flight sim novices but less so for vets.
