Whodunnit?. If you like your point-and click adventures such as Broken Sword or mysteries like Sherlock Holmes, then Still Life 2 will be right up your darkened alley. As the name suggests, it's the sequel to the original Still Life (which also has connections to Post Mortem) and although it's perhaps not quite as good, it's still worth a look. Once again, you find yourself in control of FBI agent Victoria McPherson and are on the trail of another vicious murderer. It's your job to follow the clues and solve the puzzles which will lead you to the identity of the killer but in an interesting twist you also get to control another character. This second person is a journalist who is the killer's next target and in these sections, the mood changes drastically, as there is a greater sense of fear and urgency as you fight for your survival. The main gameplay is familiar stuff, as you explore various environments, looking for clues and grabbing items to solve the various puzzles which bar your progress. On the whole, this is decent, if unspectacular stuff. The gameplay is not very different from most other entries in the genre and it's not one which has evolved a great deal from the early days of King's Quest and the like. All this is forgivable though if the story holds up and in this case, Still Life 2 is largely successful. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, with some memorable characters to meet along the way. Throw in some solid puzzles and nicely atmospheric puzzles and you have an enjoyable mystery adventure, but which isn't likely to linger after it's finished.
