Aargh, me hearties!. The original Monkey Island games were classics of the point-and-click genre, and while the franchise may have wobbled slightly toward the end, it remains a much-loved series. This enduring appeal explains the reasoning behind its recent resurrection at the hands of Telltale Games, developers of Walking Dead and other adventures, and it's testament to their skill that they've brought the series back with such skill and aplomb. This one is the fourth chapter in a series of five new episodes, so if you've haven't played the earlier ones, this won't mean much to you, but if you have, it's basically a must play. As ever, the game revolves around the exploits of the hapless Guybrush Threepwood, and continues directly on from episode three, finding him on trial for his life for such heinous acts as paralyzing a cat. In gameplay terms, this is the usual stuff, although there's fewer dialogue-based puzzles here, with a greater focus on inventory-based ones instead, while there are also no real mini-games here. For the most part, this is another solid entry in the series and only really suffers from coming after the superb episode three, Lair of the Leviathan. In comparison to that one, the writing here isn't quite as sharp, and the puzzles not quite as clever or numerous, while there is a certain amount of recycling of environments, which is disappointing. The tone is also darker than before, which might upset fans, but even with these flaws, this remains a good addition to the series which needs to be played if you want to see the story to its end.
