A haunting we will go. If you're into your classic horror adventures such as the Lurking Horror or Lighthouse which are inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft, then this cracking game will be right up your alley. It combines a genuinely haunting tale with minimalist gameplay to great effect and which create a game which lingers in the memory long after you've finished it. You play the role of a detective who has supernatural powers and who specializes in weird cases that most cops won't touch. You receive letters from a young admirer who shares your powers but when he disappears, you venture to the town of Red Creek Valley to find out what happened. The game presents itself as an open world experience which can be explored freely. There are none of the elements that you associate with most adventure games such as Silent Hill or Resident Evil, so there's no HUD, journals, equipment or tutorials. The puzzles here are environmental ones which require you to uncover clues by using your supernatural skills and which will then lead you to the next one, uncovering the mystery as you go. Once you have all the key elements, you have to piece them together in the right order to reveal what exactly happened and while this might not sound enthralling, in practice it is highly compelling. This really is quite an unusual game which has been handled and implemented quite brilliantly. It's not an action packed experience but one which rewards thoughtful play with a gripping narrative that will have you hooked to the end. With lush, atmospheric visuals and memorable sound design, this makes for a wonderful adventure.
